Cautious optimism from retailers as phase 2 of main street upgrade begins

Milton retailers are cautiously optimistic about a second phase of upgrades to the town’s main street, following a ‘‘ quick and efficient’ ’ first phase.

The Clutha District Council said the second phase of the $11 million-plus Milton Main Street Upgrade project began this week, which would involve placing overhead powerlines in the town centre underground.

Phase 1, which involved $6m of upgrades to water infrastructure , began in July last year, and had been completed ahead of schedule, council chief executive Steve Hill said.
